Research Notes:
one of four men names Lessley in the latter part of the eighteenth
century in the Carolinas [Ref: LesslieSB LESSLIE p23]
could well have been a brother of Samuel and John LESLIE; however there is no
convincing evidence to support the theory [Ref: LesslieSB LESSLIE p27]
came to America a few years before the Revolutionary War, and died prior
to the breakout of that war [Ref: GoodspeedBros SouthernAR p423, LesslieSB
LESSLIE p362]
buried in the Beersheba cemetery, about five miles west of York, York Co,
South Carolina [Ref: LesslieSB LESSLIE p27]
will filed 16 Jul 1789 (though he died in 1775), mentiones "five children" but
does not name them. Administrator Samuel Burns [Ref: Murphy LESLIE p15d]
estate settlement began in 1789; no explanation for the long delay after
his death [Ref: LesslieSB LESSLIE p363]

George Lessley, deceased, Administrators bond
Know all men by these present that we, Samuel Burns, William Fergus and
William Burns of York County of State of South Carolina, are held and firmly
bound to William Bratton, Joseph Palmer, James Wilson, Malcolm Henry, Abraham
Smith and Thomas Gillam, Justices of the County Court of York aforesaid in the
penal sum of four hundred pounds lawful money of the state aforesaid, for the
true payment whereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and
administrators, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this
15th day of July, 1789.
The condition of the above is such that if the above bound Samuel Burns,
administrator of all the goods, chattels and credits of George Lesley,
deceased, do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all the
singular the goods and chattels and credits of the said deceased, which have
or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of, the said Samuel Burns
- or into the hands of any other person or persons for him and the same so
made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the County Court of York at such
time as he shall be thereunto required by the said court and all the rest and
residues of the said goods, chattels and credits, which shall be found
remaining upon the said administrators account, the same being first examined
and allowed by the justices of the said court for the time being, shall
deliver and pay unto such person or persons, respectively as the said justices
by their order or judgement shall direct, pursuant to the laws in that cause
made and provided and if it shall here after appear that any last will and
testament was made by the said deceased, and the executor or executors therein
named, do exhibit the same in the said court making request to have it
allowed and approved according if the said Samuel Burns being thereunto
requested do render and deliver up his letter of Administration approbation of
such testament being first had and made in the said court, this obligation to
be void. Otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
