Corrections to Complete Peerage (15 volume set, published 1910-1998)
These are discrepancies between CP and other reliable sources.
One reliable source is Keats-Rohan Domesday People, and Domesday Descendants, as updated by Rosie Bevan's "Corrections to Domesday People and Domesday Descendants" at https://fmg.ac/projects/domesday-corrections.

Another reliable source is Neil Thompson's _Ancestry of Charles II_, which appeared serially in "The Genealogist" volume 2 through volume 33 (between 1981 and 2012), and was published as a book in 2012.

And, sometimes the "other reliable source" is Complete Peerage itself; these inconsistencies are listed in a separate file.

Usually "corrections" or "additions" to Complete Peerage are posted to the newsgroup/mailing list soc.genealogy.medieval/GEN-MEDIEVAL and discussed, leading to consensus on the revised information. No such posting/discussion was seen for any of these (if there was and I missed it, please send me a pointer to the posting).

CP I p20 Abergavenny II, temp Henry I Brien Fitz Count "… his wife Maud, Lady of Wallingford,(b) … Note(b): According to an inquisition in the Testa de Nevill (p.115), she was widow of Miles Crespin (a Domesday tenant, who d. 1107), and da. and h. of Robert d'Oilly of Wallingford (another Domesday tenant) by the da. and h. (Ealdgyth) of Wigod, Lord of Wallingford, temp. King Harold. But this inquisition is of too late a date to be implicitly relied on."

Note(b) accurately gives the information in Testa de Nevill, and says it can't be implicitly relied on. But it is incorrect information on the identity of Brien's wife. Maud/Matilda was daughter of Miles Crespin and Maud Lady of Wallingford, daughter and heir of Robert d'Oilly of Wallingford. This is given in Keats-Rohan Domesday Descendants p621 and p775, and in Domesday People p297.

CP I p70 Airlie I 1491 Sir James Ogilvy "… s. and h. of Sir John O[gilvy] …suc. his father about 1484 …"

This is likely correct that James succeeded his father John on that date, but the phrase is used in many other places in CP to indicate the death of his father. Alternate phrasing such as his father resigned the title on that date, or that there was a re-grant of the title to the son, is used in CP. SP I p113 gives the correct death date of John Ogilby (Jul 1489), as does Douglas Richardson in RoyalAnc v1p62 and v1p632.

CP I p70 Airlie III 1505 James (OGILVY), Lord Ogilvy of Airlie "… He m. Isobel, da. of Alexander (LINDSAY), 7th Earl of Crawford [S], by Margaret, da. of (---) CAMPBELL"

The correction in volume XIV p14 for I page 70 line 20 (same line as 'for 8th' read '7th') says "for 'Isabel' read 'Margaret'"?? Text already says 'Margaret'. The mother of Margaret (wife of Alexander Lindsay) is given as 'Isabel Campbell' in CP III p514, and SP III p25. It seems likely the correction in XIV p14 should have said "for 'Margaret' read 'Isabel'".

Mariot is shown as daughter of Sir Robert MAXWELL in CP I p156 (here), CP I p219, and CP II p260. Neil Thompson, Ancestry of Charles II on v6p148 gives parents as Sir John MAXWELL (son of Sir Robert MAXWELL) and Margaret BORTHWICK. The name of Archibald's wife is corrected by Chris Phillips Some corrections and additions to the Complete Peerage: Volume 1: Angus to be Margaret, citing the marriage contract published by William Fraser in _The Scotts of Buccleuch_, vol. 2, p. 117 (1878). The marriage contract is also cited by Scots Peerage SP II p155, which gives Margaret as daughter of Patrick HEPBURN by his second wife, Margaret GORDON.

Ida was daughter of Otto II Count of Chiny, by Adelaide, daughter of Albert III Count of Namur. This is given in Keats-Rohan Domesday Descendants p1097. This is also given by G.A.Moriarty, "The Wife of Robert MARMION" in TAG v20 (1943) pp256.

Margaret was daughter of John GRAHAM. Critical piece of evidence of her parentage is her identification in the papal mandate, issued in the diocese of St Andrews. Therefore she was not of Montrose (which is in diocese of Brechin), rather of Abercorn. This was shown by John Ravilious in The Scottish Genealogist, LXIV(2), Jun 2017, pp49-52. CP I p418 Bardolf II 1304. 2. Thomas (BARDOLF), Lord Bardolf, "… He m. Agnes, perhaps a grandson (corr in XIV p64)."

The problem here is the update in CP XIV, saying the wife of Thomas was "perhaps a grandson" It would have been more appropriate to say "perhaps a Grandson." There is a difference between a surname of "GRANDSON" and the child of a child (of some unidentified person). Weis AR7 says "perhaps William de GRANDISON, Seigneur de Grandison on Lake Neufchatel, Switzerland, by Blanche, dau Louis de Savoie, Baron Vaud" and cites CP I p418 (the pre-correction text). Douglas Richardson _Royal Ancestry_ v1p252 and v4p153, claim Agnes was daughter of William GRANDISON, Lord Grandison. This possibility is discussed on CP I p418 note (a), which points out that Agnes, daughter of William 1st Lord Grandison, married John NORTHWODE, heir apparent of John 1st Lord Northwode. The correction in XIV p64 points to Europaische Stammtageln, vol XI table 154, which shows Blanche of Savoy married to Pierre II Sire de Grandison (NOT William); ES II table 190 shows Louis Baron of Vaud without any daughter named Agnes.

CP II p62 Beaumont Barony by Writ VI 1413. Viscountcy I 1440. 1. and 6. Was it in Kenilworth? Kenilworth is outisde Coventry, Warwickshire by 6 miles. Douglas Richardson RoyalAnc v1p315 and v4p193 say "outside Coventry, Warwickshire" and RoyalAnc v5p427 says "Coventry, Warwickshire". Not clear if this is a correction to CP or not.

Neil Thompson gives 18 Feb 1398 in Ancestry of Charles II, vol 17 p252. Should it possibly be 1397/8? Other internet sources (e.g. wikipedia, geni, wikitree (Coucy-10), findagrave (144062084)) give 18 Feb 1397. ES VI #130 and VII #82 give just the year 1398. But it seems clear 1396/7 is incorrect.

Blanche of Lancaster, was born 23 March 1342, as given by Neil Thompson in Ancestry of Charles II, vol 22 p101. In footnote (312) he cites Brad Verity's article "The First English Duchess ..." Foundations, vol 1, no 5 (2005), 307-23, at 314, presents the evidence for 23 March 1342. ("… Derbyshire and Staffordshire inquisitions following the death of Duke Henry in 1361, state speciically that Blanche was "aged 19 years at the feast of the Annunciation last," which gives her a birth date of 25 March 1342."; however the downloaded pdf file also contains the note "Please note this article has been updated with minor corrections and additions, as published in Foundations 3(1) in January 2009." and that page of corrections is not available online). Neil Thompson's book version of Charles II (published in 2012) page 264 also says "23 March 1342."
