CP I p199 Argyll II 1493 2. Archibald (CAMPBELL), Earl of Argyll "… He m. Elizabeth, 1st da. of John (STEWART), 1st Earl of Lennox [S], by Margaret, da. of Alexander (MONTGOMERY), 1st Lord Montgomery [S]."

Margaret, wife of John STEWART, 1st Earl of Lennox, was daughter of Alexander MONTGOMERIE, Master of Montgomery, son and heir apparent of Alexander, 1st Lord Montgomery. This was shown by Andrew B.W.MacEwen in his article "Seven Scottish Countesses I - Margaret Montgomery, Countess of Lennox" which appeared in The Genealogist vol 11 pp176-183 in 1997. It was also posted to GEN-MEDIEVAL by John Ravilious on 11/14/2008

Sir Richard de VERE who married Margaret PERCY was a younger son of Richard, 11th Earl of Oxford, and brother of John, 12th Earl of Oxford. This was shown in GEN-MEDIEVAL posting by Douglas Richardson on 12/14/2011.

William PLACE, son of Sir William PLAYCE and Elizabeth, had a sole daughter Elizabeth, who married an unknown HASTINGS and d.s.p. This was shown by John Watson in Gen-MEDIEVAL posting of 1/30/2015. The Robert PLACE who married Katherine HALNABY was son of William PLACE of Scalby, Yorkshire, and Emma SLITHOLME, as shown by Douglas Richardson on GEN-MEDIEVAL 1/11/2004.

CP I p400 Banbury Earldom I 1626. 1. William KNOLLYS, "… 2nd s. but h. male of Sir Francis KNOLLYS, K.G., by Katherine (corr in XIV p62), sister of Henry, Lord Hundson, da. of William CARY (by Mary, sister of Anne BOLEYN, Queen of Henry VIII), …"

Whether Katherine was daughter of William CARY or of Henry VIII is disputed. Anthony Hoskins published an article in Genealogists' Magazine March 1997, "Circumstantial evidence indicates a high probability that Henry VIII fathered two children by Mary Boleyn …" and posted to GEN-MEDIEVAL on 10/28/2008. The theory is far from proved, but deserves to be mentioned.

CP II p3 Basset III 1343 to 1390. 3. Ralph (BASSET), Lord Basset of Drayton, "… He d.s.p., 10 May 1390. … when the Barony became dormant, or, possibly, fell into abeyance between the heirs of his two great aunts.(f)" Note(f): "The heirship of the last Lord is somewhat doubtful. As to many of the estates the heir was found to be, according to one inq., Thomas, Earl of Stafford, s. of Hugh, s. of Ralph, s. of Margaret BASSET, sister to the grandfather of the deceased; but, according to another inq., the heirs were (1) the said Earl of Stafford and (2) Alice, wife of William CHAWORTH, descended from Maud, a sister of the said Margaret, who m. Sir William HERRIZ. These findings were confirmed by another inq. (1403), 4 Henry IV, on the death of Joan, widow o the last Lord Basset.…"

Maud BASSET who married William HERRIZ was not sister of Matilda BASSET, rather she was two generations earlier in the Basset family. This was stated by Douglas Richardson in a GEN-MEDIEVAL posting on 10/21/1999 (though he provided no sources). This was also shown by Trevor Foulds in _Thurgarton Cartulary_ published in 1994, on page clv (with numerous citations), speifically that she was sister of Ralph BASSET who lived 1211-1265.

The second wife of William, 3rd Earl of Bath, was Elizabeth, daughter of Francis RUSSELL and Margaret St JOHN. This update was given by Hal Bradley in a posting to GEN-MEDIEVAL on 4/8/2008. Elizabeth LONG was the wife of William RUSSELL, brother of Elizabeth (CP II p78 (with corr in XIV p80)).
